Open Air Sketching: Historic Mead Bank

Mead Bank Tablet Sketch unrestricted PRAbove: Time lapse sketch  accomplished during huge airport delays when I was traveling, using the photo from the Waymarking link below as a guide.  Both above and below were done with a fingertip; the above was free motion, the one below was restricted to straight lines with tapered starts and stops.  Below, at the end,  I mistakenly tipped the black paint fill-bucket which used both my sketch and the underlying photo in its fill-formula.  Interesting results.    The free Android sketch program is Ibis Paint.

Time Lapse below:

MEAD BANK BLACK PR.jpg

Feb. 9th was another sketch outing day to capture something of the exterior of the historic Mead Bank in Waupaca, 215 Jefferson.
It looks nothing like a modern bank, but its large front windows and deeply set-in doorway in a tiny white clapboard building offer great opportunities. This building is on the National Historic Record, but is slated to be torn down or moved soon.
Built in 1862, rebuilt in 1870s, and site of the unsolved sensational murder of banker Mead himself in 1882,  the building holds some of Waupaca’s earliest historical memories.
It faces west, and there is parking on the street. There may also be views from the barbershop across the street, but I haven’t checked. If you can’t come Saturday, or the weather is just too much,  or you want the sun at a different angle, pick another time in your schedule  and we will share results later.  This may also be a good group entry into the Waupaca Art Show in April at the Danes Hall since  there will be a definite interest in historic Waupaca at the event.
Enjoy sketching the building, or just some of the architectural elements, or maybe a bit of a ghostly form through one of the windows…….
If you are inclined for more on the murder, here’s the link to the New York Times archives:
