Sketch coffee cups, pastries, and vases for a classic morning of Urban Sketching.

Saturday March 9, 2024 we will be sketching inside at the Farmhouse&Cabin shop in the village of King, WI just south of Waupaca, WI — N2744 CTH QQ Waupaca, WI 54981– Hours: 9:30am – noon. https://www.farmhouse-cabin.com with a “field trip” (or two!) to the adjoining European Delights shop next door for still life “refills.” Carman at European Delights makes amazing European style croisants, cremesnit, or bakalava, from her Romanian childhood.

Sketching is in the back workroom (set up in this photo for sewing) at Farmhouse&Cabin. Bring your best sketching coffee mug or tea cup and saucer. Carmen will have coffee for us, and you’ll want something to sketch when you end up eating your cream filled tart before you get it painted. Or bring a vase and we’ll have some flowers for a spring bouquet or two to sketch.

We meet second Saturdays of every month. No stress, no sign up, no fees, just sketch on location, often in places you might not think to try on your own. Anyone is welcome, any skill level, any style: pencil, charcoal, pastel, ink, watercolor, oil, acrylic, gouache, chalk, sun prints, 3D, clay, iPad, camera/ phone…. whatever.

We are part of an international group of “Urban Sketchers” who enjoy painting and sketching on-site, putting on paper what we see in front of us. Come as you can, once now and then, or more regularly. Each month there’s a different mix of people.

Sketching antiques: Nov 11, 2023 Waupaca, WI; Vintage Plus

Saturday Nov.11, 2023 we’ll be sketching indoors or out at Vintage Plus N2540 County Rd QQ, Waupaca, WI 54981 from 10 till 12:15 -ish

There are all sorts of items at this collectables consignment shop. It’s open for business, so if you want to be inside, keep your gear on the minimal side. Bring a stool and your sketching tools and enjoy a chance to sketch — just about anything!

We meet second Saturdays of every month. No stress, no sign up, no fees, just sketch on location, often in places you might not be able to on your own. Use these outings for practicing plein air painting, to meet others who paint, to pick up tips, and exchange ideas. Anyone is welcome, any skill level, any style , any medium. Come once, occasionally, or every month, as you like.

Saturday Sketching Brainard’s Bridge, Waupaca, WI — Oct 14, 2023

Friday Oct 14, 2023 sketch from 9 AM till noon at Brainard’s Bridge on the north side of Waupaca, WI ,off 711 Bailey St.

Partly sunny and breezy, but the sun was there at noon when we were under a 50% partial solar eclipse. If you sat under a tree, you were treated to hundreds of crescent images of the eclipse through the pinholes formed by the tree leaves above you.

Anyone is welcome at these sketching events: any skill level, any style …. This is a chance to meet, year round, to paint and sketch on location. There’s no sign-up, no pressure, no competition, no cost: people just come to paint and sketch. It’s a different group every month, so feel free to come even if only occasionally.

We are members of the international sketching group, Urban Sketchers, who are dedicated to gather in groups to sketch together without fees, with the goal to put on paper what is in front of them and share it with others.

Open Air Pop-up Sketching: South New Hope Church, Portage County, WI

South New Hope Church (or at least the Cemetery Committee) holds a pie social during the Hidden Art Studios Tour during the first weekend in October. It provides a great place to sketch AND the bonus of some great pies.

Plein Air Pop-up: Rural, WI Sept 30, 2023

A quick sketch outing in the village of Rural, Wi before the thunder put an end to it.

Open Air Sketching in Rural, WI, Sept 30, 2023

Whether you are looking for landscapes, architecture, water or winding roads, join us south of Waupaca, WI in the village of Rural for a morning’s sketch outing 9 till noon Sept 30, 2023.
The entire Village of Rural is on the National Register of Historic Places and is an example of an early Yankee village in the Midwest. The original homes date from the 1850s.
Bring your own supplies and a stool. Anyone is welcome, any skill level, any medium. There’s no sign-up, no stress, just come and paint or sketch anytime during the morning. Enjoy yourself, enjoy peeking at other’s work, and maybe slip in a bit of conversation.

The village of Rural is just south of Waupaca east of Hwy 22 on Rural Road. The village has 3 main streets about 3 blocks long, all with lovely venues .We will be along the the Crystal River on Rural Rd, (GPS locates it in Waupaca, WI 54981 )

Join us for a morning of sketching and painting Saturday, June 10, 2023 in the historic village of Rural, WI just south of Waupaca, WI 9 AM to noon.

We have special permission for access to one of the home’s riverside yards, so please email Peggy and Jan at OpenAirSketchGroupATgmailDOTcom for the house number and parking directions for the waterfall and covered bridge. Otherwise, the entire village is picturesque and you won’t lack for inspiration just wandering on your own.
